Over the years, as in-vehicle safety tech becomes more advanced and innovative, the IIHS has raised their standards, making it harder for automobiles to achieve the coveted Top Safety Pick+ rating.
In order to obtain it, vehicles have to score top marks in every crash test category while having available crash avoidance technology and good quality headlights. For the 2018 model year, the Hyundai Sonata managed to pass the IIHS tests with flying colors and attain the Top Safety Pick+ title.
The IIHS has five different crashworthiness tests: small front overlap, moderate front overlap, side impact, roof strength, and head restraints. The 2018 Hyundai Sonata earned a top rating of “good” on every test.
The Sonata also was also equipped with the optional automatic emergency braking system and high-quality headlights. This is the second time the Hyundai Sonata has managed to grab the Top Safety Pick+ rating, following the 2016 model year.
The 2018 Hyundai Sonata’s Top Safety Pick+ safety rating makes it a great choice for a family sedan. If you’re interested, stop by Tipton Hyundai for an up close and personal look at the Hyundai Sonata and its new, top-of-the-line safety technology.
